DO YOU SUPPORT THIS? Ban Overseas Studies For “Public Servants” [Politicians] Children – ASUU Suggested (See Why)

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Akure zone, has said the only way to end incessant strikes in the education sector is to promulgate a law banning the public office holders from sending their children abroad to study.

The zonal coordinator of the union, Prof. Olufayo Olu-Olu, in a statement, said such a law would help to rebuild the nation’s education sector.

He said,

“Members of the ruling class and their cohorts have their wards schooling abroad, so they do not commit to endiASUU strike since the political office has become occupational rather than public service.

“Until we domesticate two very important practices as laws in Nigeria, we may not get out of this doldrums -first, an act to compel all public office holders and government appointees to have their wards educated in Nigeria public schools from primary to tertiary level.

“Secondly, an act to compel all political office holders, appointees and their dependents prohibiting them from seeking medical intervention outside Nigeria. When these two laws are enacted, perhaps we will gradually see the end of needless ASUU strikes in the country.

“Until such a time when the government does the needful (our ivory towers properly funded, our withheld emoluments paid amongst other issues), the struggle continues”.

MY THOUGHTS:

Nigeria is a country where the ministry of education sends their children abroad to study, leaving the educational system in a sorry state.

Nigeria is country where the ministry of health and family run to abroad for treatment, leaving the health sector in a sorry state.

Nigeria is a country where the ministry of transport always using private jet to transport himself and family leaving the roads, rail ways etc in a sorry state.

Nigeria is a country where politicians earn millions monthly while other civil servants earns peanuts, leaving other parastatals in a sorry state.

Nigeria is a country where some security agents kill and intimidate the people they are paid to protect, making them look scary, intimidating and unapproachable to the same people they’re meant to protect.

Nigeria is a country with crude oil, but without any functioning refinery to refine the crude oil, making it unaffordable for the masses when refined and imported back.

Nigeria is a country where Power Holding PHCN (NEPA) uses generator in their offices and at home 24/7.

The list of tragedies in Nigeria is endless. So I think this is a welcome development. Can we sign a petition against public servant children studying overseas? In fact sign petition against every of their activities in abroad.

What’s your take on this?
