RELIGION WITHOUT REASONING IS A DISASTER - BN TIJANI
Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) said"the essence of the religion of Islam is giving good counsel. Am here by asking, where is good counsel without good reasoning?
Many Muslims of today seem to have lost the gift of sound intuition and the confidence to trust in reasoning
Often, they are unnecessarily torn between what they instinctively know to be right and between competing authoritarian claims made in Islam's name that do not make sense and may even conflict with human values
Islamic ethics designated reasoning as the first necessary element of moral character. In the absence of reasoning, good character is like a seemingly stable building on week foundation
Take for instance,Moral responsibility (taklif)is the first prerequisite for obligatory Islamic practises and never has legal validity in the absence of the faculty of reasoning.
Imam Gazali (r.t.a),one of the most referred scholars In Islamic history, held reasoning's lofty status in Islam to be beyond dispute: "know that the question of reasoning's preeminence is something that does not require trouble to clarify, especially since the eminence of knowledge itself only becomes clear by virtue of reasoning.
