INAUGURAL SPEECH OF THE LAUTECH SUG PRESIDENT 2021/22

Of the Greatest Ladokites!!!

I stand here today by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our comrades, I wish to commend the Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor M.O Liasu, Dean of Students’ Affairs; Professor Azeem Ige, LAUTECH Alumni Global President, Honorable Solomon Onilede and other Intellectuals and dignitaries for their services by creating an enabling environment in bringing back our union as well as the generosity and cooperation shown through out those period of students agitation.

May I use this medium to commend my rugged and indefatigable supporters for their immense contribution during the struggle to ensure that our union is brought back as a true representation of students despite our individual differences. Let me state in the words of Martin Luther King That "we might have come from a different boat but we are on the same ship now".

I wish to commend the efforts and dynamism of the Electoral Committee, for the transparent and first of its kind election in LAUTECH history.

I will remain ungrateful if I don't commend the members and leaders of my school of thought and ideology, National Liberty Vanguards. I sincerely appreciate your sacrifice, assistance, structure and co-operation which aided my emergence, history will not forget you as heroes of our time. Indeed we are not making of history we are made by history.

You will accept with me that our Union has gone through turbulent periods owing to vested interests, today I say to you that the challenges facing our union are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.
On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that far too long have strangled our union. We remain an intellectual Union, but in words of scripture the time has come to set aside things. The time has come to re-affirm our enduring spirit, to choose our better history: to carry forward that precious gift, that bold ideas passed on from predecessors, the God's given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserves a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

In re-affirming the greatest of our union, we understand that greatness is never given, it must be earned. Our journey has never be one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path of the faint-hearted. Rather it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things. Some celebrated but more often comrades obscure in their labour, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

This is the journey we continue today our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing path of protecting narrow interest and putting off un pleasant decisions, that time has surely passed.
Starting today we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin again the work to ARISE a new LAUTECH. For everywhere we look there is work to be done:
1) Academic Welfarism
2) Renovations
3) Innovations
4) Security
5) Empowerment
What the Cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them that the stale political argument that have consumed us for so long no longer apply.

To those who cling to power to intimidate and harass students through deceit and silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willingly to inclench your fist.

To my fellow students I will admonish you to be good ambassadors of this great citadel of learning, for the world has changed, our nation has changed, our union has changed and we must change with it.

To my fellow executives what is demanded from us is to return to truths, what is required for us now is a new era of responsibilities a recognition on the path of everybody, that we have duties to ourselves and our union.

Duties that we don't grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character that giving our all to a difficult task.

This is the price and the promise of our studentship, this is the source of our confidence, the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny. This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed towards achieving a sustainable union worthy of emulation.
Together, we shall ARISE a new LAUTECH.
